That ALL Day Beard & Stache Magnesium/MSM Lotion - Growth for ANY Hair
MSM is a sulfur donor toward cysteine, the amino acid hair is largely built from, and a randomized trial rated a shea butter emollient excellently tolerated in 96.7 percent of cases. Both are in this jar, scrubbed into the skin under the beard.
For men and women working on a beard, a moustache, a hairline, or a scalp. One 3 oz jar.
- Zechstein Magnesium
- MSM
- Organic Shea Butter
- Lab Tested Hemp Seed Oil
- Small Batch
- No Fillers
- No Synthetic Fragrance
- No Parabens
- No Synthetic Emulsifiers
Why people use it
- Built for the skin under the hair. Coarse facial hair sits on skin that flakes and itches. Shea butter and hemp seed oil are what settle that down.
- Softens what's already there. Worked in daily, the blend leaves a beard or moustache easier to comb and less wiry by the end of the week.
- The same magnesium base. Zechstein magnesium chloride and MSM. Label states ~280 mg of magnesium per teaspoon of lotion.
- Scalp and hairline too. Same routine, a quarter teaspoon scrubbed into the skin along a part or a hairline.
- Sulfur is what hair is built from. MSM is an organosulfur compound, a source of the sulfur that goes into cysteine, the amino acid keratin is largely made of. It's in every jar in the line; see the research drop-down.
What's in the jar
Same base in every jar in the line. Only the essential oil blend changes.
| Ingredient | Why it's in the jar |
|---|---|
| Organic shea butter | The body of the lotion. It's what makes skin still feel soft an hour later. |
| Lab-tested hemp seed oil | 50 to 70 percent linoleic acid. Plant oils high in linoleic acid are studied for skin-barrier comfort. It also keeps the lotion from sitting on top of the skin. |
| Genuine Zechstein magnesium chloride | The magnesium. Bischofite, solution-mined from a 250-million-year-old Permian salt bed under the Netherlands, not built as a synthetic salt. The label lists ~280 mg of magnesium per teaspoon of lotion; that is magnesium in the jar, not an absorbed dose. Magnesium is bound by 3,751 human proteins (the human magnesome), which is why it's the base of every jar. |
| Deuterium-depleted distilled water | The water phase, and the carrier for the magnesium chloride. The deuterium-depletion step is Josh's own preference, not a claim about your skin. |
| MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) | An organosulfur compound. It's in the jar for skin comfort and for the sulfur it carries. |
| White/yellow beeswax | Holds the butter and water phases together and gives the lotion its set, without a synthetic emulsifier. |
| Essential oil blend | A beard-and-moustache blend. The oils aren't listed on this page yet. |
Count capsules as your magnesium number.
How to use
- Apply 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon to the area and scrub it into the skin beneath the hair. Once a day.
- Facial skin is thin. Start at the low end and keep it clear of the eyes.
- Start with a thin layer, a teaspoon or less. A little goes a long way.
- Chest for the scent, bottoms of the feet when you want it on more skin. Thighs and forearms are the next spots people reach for. That's how people use it, not an absorption ranking.
- Patch test a small area and give it 24 hours before you make it a daily habit.
- If the jar separates, sit it in a bowl of hot water about 20 minutes, then remix with a milk frother. Repeat if it's still firm.
- Keep it cool and dry, out of a bathroom that swings hot and cold. Use within 12 months of opening.
- Pregnancy: we point people to Zanex Swap or Sleep Zzz. Under age 2: those two only, in very small amounts.
Sourcing & making
Every jar in this line is the same base: organic shea butter, lab-tested hemp seed oil, genuine Zechstein magnesium chloride, deuterium-depleted distilled water, MSM, and beeswax. The magnesium is bischofite, solution-mined from a Permian salt bed roughly 1,600 meters under the Netherlands, not built as a synthetic salt. Beeswax holds the water and butter phases together, so there is no synthetic emulsifier in it. Blended in small batches and poured into a 3 oz jar when you order.

Who it's for — and who it isn't
Good fit for:
- Men and women conditioning facial hair, a hairline, or a scalp as part of a daily grooming routine
- Anyone who wants magnesium on skin as part of the routine, with capsules doing the real number
- Practitioners who want a clean topical to hand a patient: seven ingredients, no fillers, no synthetic fragrance
Probably not for you if:
- You react to fragrance or specific botanicals. Email us and we'll tell you exactly which oils are in this blend.
- You're avoiding bee products, shea, or hemp.
- You're counting on a lotion to replace oral magnesium. It won't. Count capsules.

The research behind the ingredients

Genuine Zechstein Magnesium Chloride (transdermal magnesium)
Effect of transdermal magnesium cream on serum and urinary magnesium levels in humans: A pilot study
PLOS ONE · 2017 · RCT · n=25 enrolled, 24 completed
In a single-blind, parallel-group pilot trial of 25 adults, applying a magnesium cream supplying 56 mg of magnesium daily for two weeks raised serum magnesium by 8.54% versus 2.6% with placebo, reaching statistical significance only in the non-athlete subgroup.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)
Methylsulfonylmethane: Applications and Safety of a Novel Dietary Supplement
Nutrients · 2017 · mechanistic review
A peer-reviewed review of the human and animal literature reported that MSM is well tolerated at up to four grams daily and that human trials show lower pain scores and reduced markers of protein oxidation, lipid peroxidation and creatine kinase after exertion.
100% Pure Organic White/Yellow Shea Butter
Shea butter emollient cream randomized trial, 2026
Health Research in Africa · 2026 · RCT · n=30
In an open randomized controlled trial of 30 patients with mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis, a shea butter-based emollient cream reduced mean SCORAD scores by 68.2% - statistically indistinguishable from a reference emollient (p=0.187) - and was rated excellently tolerated in 96.7% of cases.
Evidence note: The base ingredients carry randomized human evidence: a 30-person RCT of a shea-butter emollient cream, a safety and applications review of MSM, and a 25-person transdermal magnesium cream pilot showing an 8.54% serum rise versus 2.6% for placebo, significant in the non-athlete subgroup, whose authors called for larger trials. What these studies measured is skin condition, joint comfort and magnesium status - hair growth and facial-hair density are the outcomes a trial of this cream would need to measure to speak to the product's headline use.
FAQ
Will it make my beard softer?
That's what most people notice by the end of the first week: less itch, less flaking under the hair, and a beard that combs easier. Shea butter and hemp seed oil condition the skin the hair grows out of, and MSM carries sulfur, which is what keratin is largely built from.
How much do I use?
A quarter to a half teaspoon, scrubbed into the skin of the area, once daily. Facial skin is thin, so start at the low end and work up if you want more.
How much magnesium gets through skin?
Research is still catching up. One pilot trial saw serum magnesium rise after two weeks of a magnesium cream; a 2017 review called for bigger studies. People use it for how it feels on tired muscles and skin; we count capsules as the reliable magnesium number.
Why did my jar separate?
No fillers and no heavy emulsifier, so the water and butter phases drift apart, faster in a warm bathroom. Sit the jar in hot water about 20 minutes, then remix with a milk frother. Repeat if it's still firm. Nothing is wrong with it.
Can kids use it? What about pregnancy?
Josh's family uses these on adults and older kids, and uses only the Zanex Swap or Sleep Zzz blends, in small amounts, for under-2s and in pregnancy. That's house practice, not a safety clearance.
Pairs well with
- Copper Face Serum — for the facial skin the beard sits on
- Whipped Tallow Lotion — heavier, for skin that wants more
- BOMB Bath Salts — magnesium in the tub, same mineral, different route
Cautions
- For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes, and off broken or freshly shaved skin, where magnesium chloride commonly stings.
- Store cool and dry, out of a steamy bathroom. Separation is normal in a filler-free lotion; rewarm and remix rather than assuming it spoiled. Use within 12 months of opening.
